NAVAJO RUG "STORM" LOOM
[00013001]

This mini-tapestry depicts a Navajo rug woven in the "Storm" pattern.

A color key is included. The pattern is shown enlarged and also in extra large format.

The Storm Pattern probably originated in the early 1900's. In Navajo mythology, man and all living things came to this world from the underworld through the Lake of Emergence, symbolized by the central design in these rugs. The squares in the four corners represent the Navajo’s four sacred mountains. The lines represent lightning bolts which carry blessings back and forth between the mountains, bestowing good spirits on the weaver and her household.
